Gyeongju in Spring Time

You know what they say about April...

April showers...

...bring may flowers!

Except, it's still April.  But we went to go see flowers anyway.

Gyeongju is sort of well known around here as a beautiful place to see cherry blossoms, so when the school offered to take a bus there directly from school, well, who wouldn't want to go?

But, of the hundreds that signed up... 26 brave souls ventured into the rain.

Look, this selfie proves I was there: rain, rain coat, umbrella, camera, cherry blossoms, and all.

But enough pictures of people.  I obviously take too many of those anyway.  On to better subjects.

Cherry blossoms are beautiful in any weather.

And whatever these golden plants are.

And these plants outside of Starbucks.

(Look at that color!)

I think I would call it a "romantic melancholic" kind of day.

...Everybody hiding under their umbrellas...

And look, even a 카지 (Kka-chi)!   ...I think that's how you spell it.

If E.A. Poe had lived in Korea, I think he would have written a poem about this 카지. It had a very Poe quality about it.

Back to the flowers.

And then, we stopped at a little traditional Korean fair food place.

Sundae: Korean sausages.

Bibimbap: yum!

And then, to warm up, we stopped at a little coffee shop to enjoy sweet potato lattes!

Overall, a good day in Gyeongju.  Sure, it was rainy, but there are certain perks to rainy days.  Fewer people around (good if you're an introvert, anyway, and want to enjoy it without the crowds), GREAT lighting and reflections everywhere--a unique setting to photograph, a sort of melancholic setting for the starving artist in us all, and of course, a chance to hang out with people (though you wouldn't know it from my pictures...).

I worried about the weather, but it was more special than other sunny days! as you mentioned, 'romantic melancholic' :)
